What is Baby Health Check?

Baby Health Check is offered as a complete newborn screening program or in addition to a national or local program. The program detects certain rare diseases at an early stage. The aim is to enable a rapid and reliable diagnosis by means of a simple sample collection using a dried blood spot card. If there are any abnormalities, a genetic confirmation test can be performed immediately from the same card. High quality standards and therefore the accuracy of the results are particularly important here. The Baby Health Check program is continuously adapted with regard to new technologies and treatments for rare diseases. Baby Health Check is therefore at the cutting edge of medical progress.

Why Is Early Diagnosis of a Rare Disease So Important?

There are different treatment options depending on the disease. For some, treatment is only effective before signs of the disease appear and for others, early treatment is life-saving.

By preventing or reducing the severity of these conditions, newborn screening can significantly improve the quality of life for affected children and their families.

Why is Baby Health Check so important?

Internationally, there is no consensus on which congenital disorders should be screened. Consequently, the number and nature of diseases comprised in the screening panel varies enormously by country, from none to over forty diseases.

In addition to public newborn screening programs, Baby Health Check offers a comprehensive program for additional Rare Diseases with a prospect of treatment, such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Severe Combined Immunodeficiencies, Adrenoleukodystrophy, Sickle Cell Anemia, Lipofuscinosis, and Mucopolysaccharidosis.

Together with doctors and experts, our ARCHIMEDlife team offers affected families support and information to help them through this difficult stage of life.
